Professor Dr. Jyoti Prakash Tamang is the senior-most Professor in Sikkim University with teaching and research experiences of 32 years. Prof. Tamang is internationally known food microbiologist, and is one of the authoritiesin microbiome and health benefits of fermented foods and beverages of the world. He passed MSc in first class first position (1985) and PhD (1992) from North Bengal University, Post-doctorate research from National Food Research Institutes, Tsukuba, Japan(1995) and from Institute of Hygiene and Toxicology, Karlsruhe, Germany (2002). He has more than 150 publications with cumulative impact factors of >135 and citation index of >3400 and h-index: 34); authored several books from CRC Press (USA), Springer (Germany). He was awarded the Gold Medal from North Bengal University in 1985, United Nations University Award, Tokyo in 1995, the National Bioscience Award of Department of Biotechnology in 2005, Gourmand Award, Paris in 2010. He is Fellows of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, National Academy of Biological Sciences, Association of Microbiologists of India, Biotech Research Society of India. He hasguided 10 PhD students, and guiding severla PhD students.He is also a Dean of School of Life Sciences, Sikkim University.
